During the recently organised Ante Prima Tastings in Sicily, wine journalists across the world were taken to various wineries split into 8 groups, writes Subhash Arora who visited Cantine Barbera, Feudo Arancio, Donnafugata, Planeta and Settesoli- from a boutique winery to the ‘biggest vineyard’ in Europe.
Red Wine India By the time I had reached the Foresteria- a guest house in the forest, far from the madding crowds, I barely had time to meet with my journalist friends and the five producers enjoying the sweet wines from Pantelleria, the Sicilian elixir. This new property owned by the well- known wine estate Planeta, is extremely comfortable and elegant; the walking distance from the Mediterranean Sea would make it a favourite sojourn for wine tourists and lovers (pun intended) when it goes known outside Sicily.
Wine To India The young Florence educated Marilena came back in 2001 and started the small family winery, very close to the Planeta Foresteria. She is fiery and passionate about the winemaking- her family was earlier in grape growing. She has only 15 hA of vineyard land where she also grows artichokes, and olives -all organically.

MONTEVIDEO, March 22 (AFP) - Argentina has its Malbec. Chile has its Carmenere. Now Uruguay, not to be out-muscled by its more famous wine-producing neighbors, is taking the world of viticulture by storm, with its distinctive Tannat wines.
Wines In India Uruguay, the fourth most important wine-producing country in South America, grows a variety of grapes, but none more celebrated than Tannat, which is fueling this tiny country's rise to prominence in the wine world.
Red Wine India Over the years Tannat has come to be seen as the quintessential Uruguayan grape and wine, representing about 40 percent of the country's entire wine production.

Monica Cooper, Napa County's viticulture farm adviser, finds two European grapevine moths in a Napa County winery trap. The moths are just emerging from their cocoons and feed on wine grapes.
India Wines The monster that is threatening to turn premium Napa Valley wine into rotting slime was quickly plucked out from underneath the peeling bark of a grapevine.
Wines In India The white cocoon containing the beast was barely large enough to cover biologist Monica Cooper's fingertip, but its presence is no more welcome in Wine Country than pod people from outer space.

Northwest transplant is making beautiful Bordeaux in Napa After a successful career in construction in the Pacific Northwest, Lou Kapcsandy headed south to the Napa Valley and bought himself a vineyard to pursue his passion for wine. Now he's making some of the finest wine in the valley — Bordeaux that is in the elegant style of French Bordeaux.
Wine In India LOU KAPCSANDY built a successful career in construction in the Puget Sound area, but his heart belongs to wine. In the late 1990s he started an import business, focusing on Bordeaux. As often happens, one thing led to another, and in May 2000 the classic "too good to be true" opportunity came his way, and he purchased one of Napa Valley's most historic vineyards, State Lane.
India Wines For some 25 years the fruit from this site had gone to Beringer. As early as 1979 and 1980 Beringer's Private Reserves were 100 percent State Lane cabernet sauvignon. But when Beringer's lease on the grapes expired, Kapcsandy (the c is silent) seized the opportunity and bought the vineyard.
