Lisa Lucke Offering a little bit of everything and something for everyone, from wine tasting to special events, 44-acre Helwig Vineyard and Winery on Shenandoah Valley Road is one of Plymouth’s newest full-service wineries, vineyards and special-event operations.
Sauvignon Blanc Opened in May 2011, Helwig’s first vintage was 145 cases of 2009 Sauvignon Blanc, produced from grapes grown on their ranch on Dickson Road. To date, Helwig has had a total production for 2009 reds and 2010 whites of 3,900 cases: 650 cases of a blend of barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc, stainless Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier; 150 cases of Rose; and 3,100 cases of mixed red varietals including Barbera, Petite Sirah, Syrah, a Bordeaux-style red, and the region’s favorite, Zinfandel.
Chenin Blanc “Our plan is to incrementally expand production annually as much as possible,” said General Manager Joe Shebl.
