The Arizona Wine Growers Association Festival at The Farm in Phoenix is a spectacular annual event, featuring the fruits of labor of winemakers from all over the state. While itâ??s delightful to catch up with my favorite winemakers, this year I focused on the newcomers to the lot. They prove that Arizona wines have come a long way and all of the wines produced in the state are worth a second taste by wine enthusiasts everywhere.
Free Wine Testing Burning Tree Cellars features the efforts of co-conspirators, Corey Turnbull and Mitch Levy. Corey says heâ??s been working to make this dream a reality for the past four years, under the tutelage of Eric Glomski in the Verde Valley region. Turnbull and Levyâ??s efforts have paid off, as their wines earned two medals in this yearâ??s competition.

Chateau Ste. Michelle, 2010 Columbia Valley Gewürztraminer, 12 percent alcohol, $9. A lovely gewürztraminer, with a lush texture. Aromas and flavors of pear, honey, apricot, nectarine, mineral and clove. Lively fruit. Crisp finish.
Wine Testing Tour India Thomas Fogarty, 2009 Monterey County Gewürztraminer, 13.1 percent, $14. A bright gewürztraminer with subtle, layered flavors. Notes of papaya, pear, honey and spice. Crisp acidity.
Free Wine Testing Wilson, 2009 Ellie's Old Vine Dry Creek Vallery Zinfandel, 14.9 percent, $34. A zesty zinfandel with concentrated flavors. Notes of tart cherry, herbs and black pepper. Good undercurrent of spice. Sassy finish.
