Big can be beautiful. I was lucky enough to have attended a tasting of 15 Masi Amarones that spanned five decades of winemaking at the Masi winery near Verona.
Winery In India I always like writing this particular column because it allows me to be totally subjective, a time to share a few random thoughts, pet peeves and mention a couple of wines that marked me during the past year. So let’s get right to it. Happy holidays, everyone.
Vineyards In India Three selections per week, that makes 156 wines that had their labels printed in my weekly column. Sure, it’s one thing for me to suggest you buy a wine, but which of those 156 inspired me to buy more than one bottle for myself? My white wine was the 2009 Chablis from Domaine Millet ($20.95, SAQ #0792216). 2009 was a tough year for white Burgundy – a touch too warm, which resulted in many white wines that were a bit too plump. No lack of acidity in this one, just a refreshingly mineral and easy-drinking Chablis. Simple can sometimes be so perfect.

NEW YORK ( TheStreet ) -- A good bottle of wine can make a great holiday gift, but connoisseur Richard Elia says you don't have to break the bank to buy one.
Wines Of India The expert says you can pick up a decent bottle of wine this holiday season with as little as a single $10 bill.
Winery In India "If you only have $10 or $20 to spend, I can still give you a whole list of really good value wines to buy," Elia says. "And even if you're visiting someone who really knows wines, you still only have to shell out $30, $40 or $50 to get something they'll appreciate." Here's a look at some wines at various price points that Elia recommends this holiday season (all figures are approximate retail prices for 750-milliliter bottles): $20 a bottle or less The 2007 Guigal Cotes du Rhone Rouge ($15) is perhaps Elia's favorite red wine in this category.

Red Wine In India Ida Agnoletti , winemaker from the Treviso region of Italy. Since planting in 1999, Agnoletti's red wine creations have expanded to include her own, widely regarded Prosecco, Frizzante, semi-sparkling and still Prosecco offerings.
Wine From India AOC recently sat down with Agnoletti to learn more about her approach to winemaking and vineyard cultivation. Dubbing herself a "producer, with a good dose of madness," Agnoletti is a somewhat unconventional winemaker with deep respect for the traditions of her region. She emphasizes the essence of viticulture and the land, primarily the preservation of wine's raw material – the grapes. Her hand-harvested vineyard receives no herbicides and uses only minimal, natural fertilizer treatments when needed.

As we all know, the weather in the Finger Lakes can be sounpredictable: a trace of snow so far in the Syracuse area, wherelast year they had 4 feet. This balmy weather, which makes shoppingand partygoing so much easier, is not accomplishing what we need inorder to pick grapes to make our outstanding Finger Lakes ice wine.In order for the crop to be picked, the temperature needs to bebelow 17 degrees for at least 12 to 14 hours. According to allreports, this may take place in January. For those who know me,last year I was part of that grape-picking team and loving it. Thisyear, I’m crazy enough to try it again and if all goes well, Iwon’t freeze standing still in the vineyard like a wintryscarecrow.
India Vineyard You still have time to contact Knapp Winery at www.knappwine.com to become part of that team. I already recruited this woman I metat Tompkins-Cortland Community College, where I spoke in behalf ofthe industry and the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail at its wine and foodpairing event. This event was prepared and served by the studentsof the Hotel and Management Program and the Wine Marketing Program. It was an excellent evening of student inquisitiveness, wine ownerknowledge and specialty foods and wine. After talking with SteveDiFrancesco, the winemaker over at Knapp, he informed me we haverecruited two members: Lisa, whom I mentioned before, and SueStafford, the chair of both of the programs that presented theevent.
Red Wine In India So what’s new on the trail? One of our wineries is going green, solar style. Thirsty Owl Wine Co. located midway down the lake onthe west side, has decided to place solar panels on its winerytasting room and winemaking facility. Jon C. Cupp, part owner ofthe winery, said, “In an effort to become more of a sustainablewinery and grower, we decided that the solar panels were not onlygood for the environment, but made perfect economic sense.” Cobblestone Farm Winery is under the process of constructing anew building next to its tasting room, an agricultural mixingfacility that will benefit the orchard and vineyard staff and willalso serve as a wine storage unit.
