Jinshui Zhang, director of international business development for the New York State Small Business Development Center, instructs winemakers on the finer points of marketing their wares to Chinese consumers Monday during a wine expo in Kingston. Thomas Morley, right, director of the Rockland-Westchester SBDC office, takes it all in.
Wine Business In India Times Herald-Record Published: 2:00 AM - 04/10/12 KINGSTON — Phyllis Rich Feder recalls a delegation of chain-smoking Chinese officials trekking to her Dutchess County winery, looking to buy all the stock.
Wine Prices In India The wine was fine, but the name was the clincher — Clinton Vineyards. The Chinese visitors knew then-President Bill Clinton would soon visit China, Feder said, "and they wanted Clinton wines everywhere." She turned down that offer — where would it leave the vineyard's regular customers? — and a subsequent one to buy the whole place.

At times we forget that the wine business is fundamentally driven by agriculture. The amount of wine for sale at any given time is determined by how many grape vines are planted and fully productive, and by the relative success of each harvest. Meanwhile, on the demand side, another set of variables is at play: How is the economy doing, what varietals are in fashion and how much does it cost to produce a case of wine? Historically, supply and demand for winegrapes have seldom been in sync. Since the early 1970s, there have been winegrape shortage cycles generally lasting between six to 10 years. In the 1970s, California saw large varietal grape plantings for the first time in Sonoma, the Central Coast, Monterey, Lodi, and the Central Valley. These plantings were driven in part by tax incentives and a growing interest in wine on the part of baby boomers.
Wine Club India The trend continued through the 1980s with significant plantings of French colombard, Chardonnay and (white) zinfandel in the Central Valley, as well as more moderate quantities throughout the North Coast. At the same time, many growers were tackling the phylloxera plague by replanting older vineyards to resistant rootstock. The result was a decade of vigorous planting which culminated with the harvests of 1989 through 1991 bringing an excess of grapes to the market. The ensuing glut came at a time when many wineries were facing bankruptcy and foreclosure due to an economic recession.
Wine Business In India Fortuitously, a rebounding economy and an unexpected report by CBS’s “60 Minutes” on the “French Paradox” sent demand soaring once again. The wine industry swung rapidly back to a supply shortage, which in turn led to large vine plantings from 1992 to 1999 — the largest plantings of varietal grapes in the history of California.

If I wanted to get drunk fast, Ineed not knock back jiggers of whiskey. A couple of glasses ofhigh-alcohol California pinot noirs do the job quite nicely.
Wines From India But that’s no reason to share the enthusiasm of my fellowAmerican wine writers for the high-octane pinots from some ofNapa and Sonoma’s cult wines packing more than 15 percentalcohol.
Wine Club India They award these wines high ratings, using terms like“blockbuster,” “fleshy,” “muscular,” and “hedonistic.” Whilethose great buzz words when you’re talking about Hollywood Romangladiator movies, they aren’t qualities I seek in a good pinotnoir.

COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Homegrown grapes and small wineries are returning to Kentucky and bringing back a tradition that made the Bluegrass State the country's third largest grape- and wine-producing state before Prohibition.
The Wine Society Of India In 1998, there were only 40 acres of wine grapes in commercial vineyards in Kentucky, but The Kentucky Enquirer reports (http://bit.ly/Iax8N8) that today more than 113 grape producers are growing 583 acres of grapes. There are also 60 small farm wineries in the commonwealth.
Wines From India Vineyards cover part of the hillside above Mark Schmidt's 19th-century stone home in Covington, where vines grew between 1877 and 1922. Late this year, he hopes to be making wines from the nearly two acres of red dornfelder grapes, which produce inky red wines popular in Germany.
