HEALDSBURG, Calif., May 21, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --Foley Family Wines announced it has acquired Napa Valley's Sawyer Cellars. The purchase includes a 49 acre parcel including 40 acres of premium Rutherford vineyards and a 20,000 gallon winery and tasting room along Napa's famed Highway 29. Foley did not buy the Sawyer brand but will continue to sell the wines from the tasting room.
Vineyards India According to Bill Foley, "We've been looking for a home along Highway 29 for our Foley Johnson winery. This purchase provides us with a great location for our tasting room, an excellent winemaking facility and 40 acres of superb vineyards in the heart of the Rutherford appellation." The winery and hospitality center are housed in a converted redwood barn that has stood on the property since the Prohibition era. There is also an underground barrel room, wine library and a modern gravity-feed cellar. Sawyer Cellars Proprietor Charles Sawyer stated, "This has been an incredible eighteen years for Joanne and me. There is no place like Napa Valley for its beauty, incredible terroir and climate for growing wine grapes, but the hidden treasure of Napa Valley is its people. We will miss this life, our friends, our incredible staff, wine club members and our visitors terribly. The upside is we have left the winery in good hands with the Foleys, and we are confident they will be great stewards of the land. We wish them much success." Brad Warner, the winemaker at Sawyer since 1999, will become the head winemaker for Foley Johnson. Brad is one of the most respected and experienced winemakers in the Napa Valley. He began his career in 1967 at Charles Krug. Three years later he moved to Robert Mondavi winery and remained there for 30 years.
India Vineyard The Foley Johnson wine brand is composed of two tiers of wine: Napa and Handmade. The Napa tier focuses on wines from the estate vineyards in Rutherford and from other high profile vineyards in Napa. The Handmade tier features special small-lot bottlings from Foley Family Wines' California winemakers Camille Benitah of Merus, Dave Lattin of Kuleto and Lisa Bishop Forbes of Chalk Hill, Mark Lyon of Sebastiani, Paul Warson of Firestone, Leslie Mead Renaud of Lincourt and Brad Warner of Foley Johnson.

Melon de Bourgogne grapes are sometimes dismissed as having few attributes, but aficionados appreciate the subtlety of the wines they produce.
India Winery MONTREAL - Last week, I wrote about how long to let your bottles age, and how it is a personal decision based on what you like in a wine’s aromas and structure. I realize only a small segment of the drinking population actually lays down bottles.
Vineyards India And that’s a shame. Drinking wines with as little as a year or two of extra age on them can make a huge difference. So why don’t more people do it? One reason is lack of an appropriate space, and with decent wine fridges costing easily more than $1,000, not everyone can afford the expense.

In Northern California wine country, Napa Valley and Sonoma County get all the attention. Another wine region I love is Livermore Valley , an easy drive from San Jose and Silicon Valley, and 35 miles east of San Francisco. Livermore boasts 50 plus wineries and is still growing, with about eight new wineries that launched in the past 5 years.
Wine To India Why do I love LV wine country? Great wines are a big draw, but what's even better is that most wineries are small and family owned. That means you have a good chance of the winemaker or owner actually pouring your wine, which happens rarely in Napa or Sonoma (unless you make an appointment, but I digress). Because these wineries are not as well known, you don't get huge crowded tasting rooms or bus loads of tipsy visitors. The roads are not clogged with tourists as they are in Napa Valley, especially in the summer. There's plenty to do besides taste wine, from playing golf or bocce ball to biking and eating well.
Wine Society Of India Livermore Valley is one of the oldest wine regions in California, with Wente Vineyards and Concannon Vineyard being two of the originals. The appellation is known for Petite Sirah, a deeply hued, rich and complex wine. But you'll also find beautiful Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Cabernet What's even cooler is that several wineries are making unexpected varietals, from Gruner Veltliner to Verdelho. I think you'll find great value in these and other Livermore Valley wines; prices are very reasonable for quality equal to many Napa and Sonoma wines.
