Take, for instance, Walter Dacon Wines near Shelton, Wash. The southern end of the Olympic Peninsula is not classic wine country (though the state's first bonded winery after Prohibition began on Stretch Island, not far away).
The Wine Society Of India Walter Dacon, run by Lloyd and Ann Anderson, launched in 2005 with the release of the 2003 vintage. The Andersons focus almost exclusively on Syrah, using grapes from some of the top vineyards east of the Cascades, including Boushey near Grandview, Williams on Red Mountain and Elephant Mountain not far from Zillah.
Wines From India The Andersons named the winery after Walter Dacon, who was Lloyd's grandfather. Lloyd, who handles the winemaking, was born in California. His father was in the military, so he lived all over the world as a child. After earning a forestry degree from University of California in Berkeley, he moved to Washington to work for Weyerhaeuser. He left the company in 1981 to start a consulting business. After the Andersons took up home winemaking as a hobby, they were encouraged by friends to turn it into a business.

The task was immense: Get a group of 15 winemakers to each taste 14 barrel samples in the barrel room at the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone during the Saturday morning of Premiere Napa Valley. In that way, all 211 wines would be sampled.
Wineries In India Eighty percent of the wines were cabernet sauvignon, and all were unique wines that are available nowhere else. These wines drew nearly 1,000 people — wholesalers, retailers and restaurateurs from all over the world — to the Napa Valley.
The Wine Society Of India After the Saturday morning tasting, all 211 wines were auctioned off and the Napa Valley Vintners raised slightly more than a million dollars an hour ($3.04 million total). The proceeds support the NVV’s efforts to promote, protect and enhance the Napa Valley appellation, the wines, vintners and community.

If you like rich, complex, high quality red wines, you owe it to yourself to get to know the wines of Ribera del Duero. The steep vineyards rising along the banks of the Duero River in Spain's second most important wine region, after Rioja, yield wines that are frequently outstanding.
Vineyards In India The wines are red, the altitudes are high, and the grape is, overwhelmingly, Tempranillo. Actually it's a local variant of Tempranillo, the early ripening variety known as Tinto Fino or Tinta del Pais in this area. It has adapted to the often harsh weather of the region and its extreme climactic fluctuations.

These large temperature swings help promote balanced acidities and aromatic complexity. Winters are also harsh, and freezing temperatures can set in both during the beginning and end of the growing season.

(CNN) -- Sitting inside the quaint tasting room of Chateau O'Brien, an award-winning French-style winery in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Northern Virginia, co-owner Debbie O'Brien pours some of the best red wine in the region.
Wines Of India The original structure for Chateau O'Brien was an old French farmhouse that Howard O'Brien, Debbie's husband, transformed into a first-class winery known for its large copper doors, wrap-around sundeck and rich aged wines that include a medium-bodied Malbec, a full-bodied Cabernet Franc, an elegant Petit Verdot, and the fast-selling Tannat Limited Reserve and Late Harvest Tannat.
Winery In India The secret to Chateau O'Brien's success: "We grow our own grapes," said Howard O'Brien, who owns three sprawling Virginia vineyards.
