Umbria, a treasure trove of medieval history, culture, and tradition, lies in the center of Italy. It is a jewel with a landscape speckled by mountains and green valleys, seeped with age-old traditions and famed flavors. It is the birthplace of many great saints such as St. Francis and St. Benedict.
Wines From India Umbria is also the motherland of the Sagrantino grape. This thick-skinned varietal comes in small clusters and has no relationship to any other of Italy’s grapes. It has very high concentration of polyphenols and tannin.
India Wine The local winemakers have a long history of perfection in wine production dating back to 1549 in Montefalco, which is part of the province of Perugia. After its disappearance in the 1960s, Sagrantino was revived by dedicated Umbrian farmers, and it is finding now its place on the international arena. Currently its production is limited.
Wine In India
By Elizabeth Downer / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette The origins of wine go back 7,000 years to Mesopotamia. For thousands of years, wine has been deeply embedded in the culture and the religion of our ancestors. It always has played a major role in the rites of both the Jewish and the Christian faiths. As we approach Passover and Easter, my wine thoughts head to the Holy Land where both religions were born.
Wine Business In India For Jews, ritual wine must be kosher. Until the end of the 19th century, that meant a sweet wine made from table grapes. The wine used in Christian religious ceremonies also is normally sweet.
Wines From India With waves of Jewish immigration from Europe into Palestine from 1879 to 1904, there was a substantial growth in agricultural settlements, including vineyards, at the same time that the demand for European-style wines arose. Baron Edmund de Rothschild, owner of Chateau Lafite in Bordeaux, financed the planting of vitis vinefera vineyards and sent teams of experts from Bordeaux to advise the new wineries on making fine wine. His vision was to make the Holy Land the source of kosher wines for Jews everywhere while sustaining the local settlers with a viable industry. With the intervention of phylloxera, the vineyards suffered and it was only in 1960 that producers successfully reintroduced the baron's Bordeaux and Rhone varieties.

NAPA, Calif. — Accolade Wines North America is introducing Flagstone wines from South Africa to the U.S. market this spring. The initial releases in the U.S. include three of the winery’s handcrafted signature blends and a Viognier, all from the Western Cape region of South Africa.
Wine Testing Tour India Highly regarded in South Africa, Flagstone was founded in 1998 by winemaker and Cape Town native Bruce Jack on the philosophy that wines should be made as an authentic reflection of their provenance, even if it means taking the hard path. “We believe in sustainability, biodiversity and, above all else that wine should do a small, simple thing – it should add joy to life,” says Jack.
Free Wine Testing Each Flagstone wine is handcrafted from fruit sourced from five core vineyards located along the Western Cape from Elim, the southernmost winegrowing area in South Africa, to one of the most easterly vineyard sites high in the Swartberg Mountains, to the Breede River Valley north of Cape Town.
