Late Harvest Chenin Blanc (dessert Wine) Kali Kopley has enlivened the Tahoe wine scene for several years now with her Uncorked wine bars in Truckee, Olympic Valley and Tahoe City. Petra, in the Village at Northstar, is a wonderful part of the group, with its selection of great food to match an equally great selection of wines. The wine-dine events there are excellent, featuring small production wineries with interesting stories to tell.
Cabernet Shiraz India Pride Mountain Vineyards, which was recently featured at Petra, produces award-winning wines famous for its concentration and richness. All Pride Mountain wines are sourced from 86 vineyard acres at 2,100 feet in elevation straddling the Napa/Sonoma county line. This small family vineyard was originally planted in 1989.
, Duckhorn is “dedicated to making wines that reflect the unique character and quality of the vineyards. Bill strives to understand the needs and opportunities presented by each specific terroir and microclimate…..approaching each vineyard block individually. Bill’s goal is to harvest when the flavors have reached their peak and the tannins are at their softest.” In Season 1 Episode 9 of “Duck Dynasty” viewers witnessed Willie purchase a vineyard and the family came down to try to help him bottle wine. It was a health inspector’s nightmare and the wine was not the hit Willie had hoped for. Somehow, Duck Commander, the company owned by the Robertson family, still managed to bottle its own wine.
Chenin Blanc Duckhorn wine sells for an average of $100 a bottle while Duck Commander sells for $10. Duckhorn is complaining that customers are getting confused by the labels. The Duckhorn label is soft and artsy with an etched pencil drawing of a duck whereas the Duck Commander label has a camouflage that’s made to look like ducks with a black label. The bottles and the wine are different colors. There is nothing similar about the wines.
Late Harvest Chenin Blanc (dessert Wine) Duck Commander says that there is no base in the lawsuit and that Duckhorn has no ownership on the word “duck.” And, for the record, Duck Commander was founded in 1972.

In a move that will enhance their Lokoya and Cardinale wine production, Jackson Family Wines has recently acquired the historic Yverdon Vineyard and Winery from Terra Valentine owners Angus and Margaret Wurtele. The transaction included 77 acres in the Spring Mountain District AVA and includes the Yverdon Vineyard, Winery and Villa. A price was not disclosed.
Sauvignon Blanc Although the Jackson Family has been sourcing from Napa Valley vineyards since 2003, this is their first acquisition on Spring Mountain. The company plans to make the property the future home for the Lokoya winery and tasting room and use the vineyard as one of the sources for the limited production Lokoya Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon.
Chenin Blanc “It has been a great privilege to be a part of this community by way of Lokoya and Cardinale and to be able to supplement that source with our own property and vision is a natural progression for us,” said Chris Carpenter, winemaker for Lokoya and Cardinale. “The acquisition will give us control of production from A to Z with more flexibility.” Founded in 1982 by philanthropist Jess Jackson, the Jackson Family owns more than 30 wineries in California, Oregon, Australia, Chile and Italy. The company focuses on sustainable viticulture practices, responsible vineyard and natural source management.
