Indian Cabernet Shiraz Turn westward on the map to Chile, and you’ll find the home of Lapostolle Clos Apalta 2012 —“a Chilean wine made by a French family,” says Favelukes, carefully crafted by Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and her husband Cyril de Bournet, owners of the world-renowned liqueur Grand Marnier . The wine is a blend made with the Carmenére grape, a staple of many Chilean reds but original to France, where it exists in great scarcity today. Favelukes says the top-notch blend expresses complex aromas of plums, red cherries, dry figs, and blueberries. Serve this up with baby lamb chops with rosemary jus or a gamey meat and the peppery, long finish will nicely complement the meat’s robust flavors.
Indian Rosé “I wanted to learn about a unique grape that is fantastic and nobody knows much about,” exclaims Favelukes who traveled to study Bobal, the mysterious, dark-skinned grape grown almost exclusively in the Utiel-Requena region of Valencia, Spain. In an effort to study the grape on-the-grounds, she stayed at the vineyard of a small town winemaker in a remote location. That’s where Bodega Mustiguillo Quincha Corral – Vino de Pago 2011 comes from, “unrecognized yet so beautiful” and “one of the best expressions of the grape,” says Favelukes. Even many Spaniards haven’t heard about this single vineyard appellation which delivers hints of plum, spice, and a creaminess topped by well-integrated oak aromas. The wine has “an inherently elegant rusticity,” describes Favelukes.
